I can't remember who said it on this forum, but they asked whether or not any of us have ever met anyone of the GB? Do we know anything of their background, how they got to where they are? Would we recognize any of them walking down the street? Do we know their wives, or their families, anything about them? The answer is no, so where do they get off insinuating that the increase in Memorial partakers is the result of mental instability, or significant emotional inbalances? For all we know, David Splane might have recently been discharged from a rehabilitation center after a bout with substance abuse. Gerrit Losch's hair might be a transplant?

Facebook, JW's, and paranoia
by Lunatic Faith inso i am still a member of the fb jw page since they put me in there themselves.
i haven't been on there for a week because i find the average post innane or downright paranoid.
today i got on there and got an admins explanation for why so many were randomly thrust into this closed group.

this group is suppose to be for us to be spiritually up-building to our brothers and sisters. The Post by Damien was great and encouraging. Ryans tongue was a destructive fire in this group.
but go back a few hours ago. You tell me, and all the others who are complaining, if you think this man is displaying Jehovah's spirit.
Hilarious!!!! You never realize how retarded JW lingo is until you step back and read it.

The difference between "Respect" and "Servile"
by LongHairGal ini always felt that many people don't quite know exactly what these words mean and how there is a difference between the two of them.
looking in the dictionary: the word "respect" means to consider worthy of high regard and to esteem.
it does not imply that the person doing the respecting doesn't have any respect or esteem for himself/herself.

Two possible reasons why some elders stay in the organization.
by Iamallcool indo you think some elders stay in the organization just because of prestige and getting horny at some judicial committee meetings?

some may, but the majority no.
Most stay because they really believe its the truth.
Some may be disillusioned, but have no real alternative. That can really suck at times. The deeper you're in, the harder you can get out.
For an elder, even to quit his responsibilities, this brings up several aspects:
1) questions why ? What reason can ge give with what consequences ? If he says it is stress related, what other elders will offer help to relieve stress, but at the same time pressure him to remain. Is it health, well, its no reason to quit. Is some bad conduct ? Well further investigations are being made. Worst of all, does he have doubts ? Is he spiritual weak or even borderline apostate ?
2) Rumors will start, regardless, since the reasons for quiting are not announced. Family will suffer to some extent. Especially if the elder was known as liberal and open minded, this might backfire too.
3) His position to help others, especially family, to think about certain matters are being diminished. He even might become "bad association" sooner as you can say "governing body"
All this would not matter, if he is single and has no family in the "truth", then he could pull out easily, perhaps loosing his social envrionment, but able to build up a new one. This might be also difficult, but its more worth it than loosing his family or marriage too.
However, it all comes down to ones personal situation anyway.
Thanks for saving me from having to type anything.

BANG OUT OF ORDER
by watersprout inbang out of order seems to have made a couple of posters laugh on here, as they had never heard it before.. it's wierd for me because it's a saying i have always heard/used...good old british slang.. it means that what someone has said is hurtful and unacceptable.. some slang terms from where i come from in the ''black country''.. up the wooden hills - go to bed.
put the wood in the hole - shut the door.
chuffed - pleased.

Thanks for this thread. I've always wondered about English slang. I remember renting UK films at the video store, and I'd have to put the subtitles on. Films like Trainspotting, and Mr.Bean. The VHS they had of Trainspotting didn't have subtitles, so for a long time I didn't know what the heck they were talking about. Remember the scene where they sold his television? He was like, "It wos muy fockin telly!!!" I didn't know what he was talking about.
What about wanker? Is that offensive over there depending on context, and who's saying it?

Our congregation hasn't recieved them yet, at least not that I'm aware of. On Sunday there was a few huge boxes in the library I noticed. The magazine servant asked me to carry one of the boxes which contained the most recent magazines. I asked him whether we'll be able to get the magazines after the meeting. He just looked at me, and by his expression i could tell the answer was no. I'm imagining we'll be getting our tracts within the next couple weeks. They might need labeled or whatever, I don't know.
